And now the 2009 reunion has come and gone. Students, family and friends gathered on Saturday September 12, 2009 at the Community Fellowship Church Fellowship Hall for their 4th reunion.  Looks like a total of 77 students, family members and friends attended and again this year some who had not attended before ! ! !  So thanks to all those who attended.

We  really appreciate and thank those who supported us for this year's reunion.  Thanks to the Community Fellowship Church of Louisa for letting us use their facilities for the gathering.  Thanks to Connie Pinson Photography for taking pictures and freezing this moment in time.  And thanks to the caterer also. A special thanks to the committee and all others who helped in any way to put this reunion together for all to enjoy.

So......we are now looking forward to Christmas break........schools out for the summer.........and the next reunion Sept. 11, 2010.

SEE YA NEXT YEAR?

Keep coming back to this site as the newsletter will be updated with new information (as it becomes available) a couple of times between now and the next reunion.  (At least that is what Chairman Sandy Jobe says.....I would like to see more updates, so lets start a campaign......everyone email Sandy and ask her to publish the newsletter more often and I will post it.....but don't tell her I said so !)

Thanks
The Evergreen Reunion Committee

IT’S OFFICIAL

Signs of EVERGREEN is in the air! Excitement is brewing as our 5th reunion is about to happen. That’s right….come September 11, at 2pm we will be in full swing! The committee has met and most of the plans have been completed…..won't take long to put the finishing touch on them. We all seem to be in rare form as we make plans and there’s lots of ideas being tossed around. LOOKOUT!  This time we will be journeying to the Lawrence County Park, which is close to our old stomping grounds. We will be meeting in the conference room, which, by the way is air conditioned….. a slight difference from our country school days. We will have an opportunity to play outside games, so bring your chairs and set a spell under the shade trees and root for your favorite teams, or even take part and show off your playing skills. There will be horseshoes and corn hole as well as Clayton’s ring toss. We will have some music led by the Hazlett sisters Jo and Paulette, and if you have the lucky ticket, you will take home a door prize! There’s a contest in the making as well, so you guys and gals get your favorite hat or cap and decorate it up really pretty, and hope to beat out your friends or classmates. There will be winners chosen by the judges for both categories: guys and gals, and a blue ribbon goes home with the winner. I wonder who will have the best decorated hat or cap there!

This year we are going POTLUCK! And you know what that means?  Everyone will be asked to bring a covered dish(or two). I know there are some mighty good cooks around…..so the menu should be really YUMMY!! The committee will furnish the meats, drinks and all the paper products, so lets see a good variety of tasty food for all to sample.  Connie Pinson photography will be on hand again this year to take student group pictures. She does a great job and we do appreciate her helping us out.  We will be offering a new book for sale this year. It’s a combination of different things, including recipes, old time sayings and home remedies. There will also be some pictures scattered throughout the book, which should bring back a memory or two of those golden years. Price is $5.00 per book , picked up day of reunion and $7.00 if mailed. If you want a book, please send in your money along with the reply card as we will not preprint books without the money up front. We hope you understand…..photocopies and everything else involved is expensive, so we can’t preprint without knowing you want to purchase one.  And, last but not least, we just may have an “outside” cake walk.  Janith will be in charge, so with her imagination, its hard to say what might develop from this. Remember the days of cake walks and pie socials?  This year we won't be asking for money…..so don’t worry about having to pay at the door….cause you don’t have too this time! Of course if anyone wants to make a donation towards the 2011 reunion, we will gladly accept it and appreciate your generosity. We hope that everyone is planning to attend this year, so please don’t forget to mail back your reply card which will be enclosed with the invitation. Also note on the card if you want a book or not and submit payment for it.   We do appreciate each and everyone who has helped us with the past years reunions, without your help, we could not have made them all a success.

Looks like this is it for now! We look forward to seeing each of you in September, so do your best to show up and BE ON TIME!

    Sincerely,
    Sandy Jobe

The 2010 reunion is just around the corner........Sept. 11 is just a little over 6 weeks away.  It will be in the Lawrence County Park at the Convention Center and there are plans in place for a good time to be enjoyed by all.  This year we will have the opportunity for outside activities such as corn hole, horseshoes,  ring toss and anything else we can come up with.  There is talk of a cake walk and .....possibly musical chairs?.....don't know about that?  I don't think Sandy has made arrangements for chin-up bars, teeter-totters or swings, but who knows......by reunion time she may surprise us ! ! !  If anyone is up to it, there could be Red Rover, Dare or maybe a baseball game....might hold that thought though.  I think Janith may have some ideas in the making also.

Also, remember there is a hat decorating contest, so give it your best shot.....decorate your hat and bring it with you that day.  There will be a prize for the ladies and one for the men also.  There is no theme.....just make it good enough to impress the judges and win the prize.

Again this year a photographer will be there to make group pictures......."under the old oak tree".  (Hope there is an oak tree there somewhere......can't imagine in the Evergreen community that there wouldn't be an oak tree somewhere)

Last but not least....this year's menu will be pot luck.  The committee is furnishing ham, meatloaf, chicken, bread, drinks and paper products, so.......if you are traveling and can't cook or just not in the cooking mood, maybe you can just stop by the store and pick something off the shelf,   (don't let this stop you from coming.....we want you there) , but for those who can.....if possible bring a "covered dish" and join the fun....we are really looking forward to seeing everyone there.

In case we have not gotten to all the Evergreen Alumni and you know of someone who is not aware of the reunion, please tell/invite them to the reunion.

Thanks

Happy New Year !!
Can you believe it is 2011? Time to move forward into another year and make more memories as we travel through each month. AND, its time to start thinking ahead to our upcoming reunion.

Last year we met at the Lawrence County Park conference center and it turned out to be a smash hit with everyone. So the Committee decided to try it one more time at this location. Our only drawback was that there were no open dates in September, so after some discussion we decided to move it to October 15th and make an all day affair out of it. More details will follow as it gets closer to the selected date. I know this might throw some of you off schedule a little, but hope that by telling you early you will be able to check this date on your calendar and come be with us. An all day event will give us more time to visit, more time for making memories and more time to fill our plates again and again. We will be observing POTLUCK, as it was such a hit last year. The tables filled to capacity with good food…..mighty good cooks from the Evergreen women and men too!!! So if you have a new recipe, why not try it out on us this year?

In trying to re-organize the reunion a little, and cut out a lot of things that we did in reunions past, so as not being too boring and make everyone become disinterested, our only plans this year will be door prizes and the Mr. and Ms. Evergreen Awards. If anyone wants to bring games, that will be just fine, and anything else that you might think would be enjoyable, bring it on! The more folks involved….the better. Our main goal this year with it being an all day event, is to allow us all more time to just sit around and visit with everyone and not be in a rush to leave. I think as we all grow older (or is it younger?), we can use more time to see everyone, to share stories from our school days, take plenty of pictures, take some peeks back as we thumb through the photo albums that we hope to share with you.

In case some of you are planning to rent a cabin at the County Park, make your reservations early as they fill up really fast. The number for the Park Office is 606-673-1166. Also there are 2 motels downtown: Super 8 Motel at 606-638-7888 and Budget Inn Express at 606-638-3398. Also there are camp-grounds and cabins at Fallsburg that aren’t that far away. Falls Creek Campground is 606-686-3398 and Creekside Cabins at 606-686-2915.

Myself and the Committee wish each of you a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year, as well as good health. We look forward to seeing each of you October 15th at the Lawrence County Park.

Be sure to mark your calendar, and as Clayton says: “ Don’t be tardy”!!!!
